July Skill-Building: The Elemental Nature of Emotion

The elemental nature of sensitivity to others’ emotions is water. The flowing, constant movement of water is symbolic of the healthy processing of emotional energy.

As HSPs, empaths & clairsentients, we tend to “hold on” to the energy of the emotions we are processing. This creates a stagnant pool of emotional energy that blocks, or dams up, our ability to move through the world effortlessly and easily.

When we’re feeling batted around by others’ emotions, or when we’re taking on others’ emotional states, water will serve to re-balance our energy by flushing the blocked energy and getting it to flow freely again.

How many ways can you bring water into your body and environment this month? Here are some of the ways we use water to keep our energy flowing. We always add the Intention that the water will help us flow the energy of our emotions.

  • Showers, baths, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, whirlpool tub (Tip: add sea salt to your bath water to draw out the energy of others that you may have picked up during the day.)

  • Table top water fountains

  • A bowl of water in our work or living space (you can also add an intention that the water will “filter” others’ emotional energy before it gets to you).

  • Put a water filter on your faucet to filter out any impurities or energy that is not for your Highest Good.

  • Sit on a beach and listen to the water/waves lapping against the shore. Allow the sound of the water to wash over you.

  • Drink half of your body weight in ounces each day (a mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy, short-term memory and difficulty focusing).

  • Wash dishes by hand instead of using a dishwasher or scrub floors by hand (these are my favorites for dealing with intense emotions).

  • Get a CD or tape with the sounds of the ocean

  • Water house and garden plants

  • Wash the leaves of your house plants (tip: add a little bit of milk or soy milk to the water to make the leaves shiny)

  • Go outside when it's raining.

Be very gentle to yourself. Select only one new way to incorporate water this week. If, after a few days, you notice some improvement in your sensitivities, keep it. If not, use your sensitivities to choose a different way and try that.
